Why would a student want to see a school counselor???
  • “I’m getting picked on at the bus stop and I don’t know what to do about it.”
  • “My best friend isn’t talking to me and it’s making me really upset.”
  • “I want to show you want I made in car class. I’m really proud of it!”
  • “My parents fight all the time and I’m really scared.”
  • “I’m new to this school and I am really worried I won’t make friends!”
  • “I want to talk to someone who won’t make fun of me.”
  • “Sarah, Javon and I had a problem at lunch and on the playground. Can you help us?”
  • “My dad is really sick and I think he may die. I’m really worried about him.”
  • “I did a lot better on my last math test, and I’m so excited to tell someone!”
  • “I live with my grandparents and sometimes I feel like I’m different because I don’t live with my parents.”

Why would a parent/guardian want to talk to a school counselor?

  • “Derek doesn’t want to go to school in the mornings.”
  • “My mother recently died and I’m not sure how to tell my child.”
  • “Dana has been having difficulty going to bed at night and she sometimes has nightmares.”
  • “Jose seems to get really upset and frustrated doing his homework, nothing I say seems to help. He’s very unorganized.”
  • “My wife and I have been divorced for a year now, but we think our kids could really benefit from talking about it with other kids who are going through the same thing. We’d like to see if they could get into a Family Change Group.”
  • “I’m really concerned because Jessie keeps telling me that he doesn’t have any friends.”
  • “My daughter has really made a big turn-around since she has been going to your Friendship Group.”
